Holland, a native of South Kingstown, and a former Rhode Island Commissioner of Education, speaks about his new book and his experience as interim superintendent of the Central Falls School District during the 2006-2007 school year. 789-1555.

Thursday, September 23, 7 PM, at Kingston Free Library--Wind Power. Learn how this clean energy source works and what is needed to make it affordable and available. Hannah Morini, wind power specialist from Alteris Renewables, will introduce the basics of community scale wind power, and discuss wind turbine construction, government incentives, regulations and other topics. Learning more about alternative energy sources is particularly relevant in the wake of the Gulf oil spill catastrophe. 783-8254.

Sunday, September 26, 2 PM, at Peace Dale Library--The Birds of Ninigret. Join us as ecologist and nature photographer Brooks Mathewson shows slides and discusses the birds of Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge. Brooks holds Master's Degrees from Harvard in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Biology, and in Forest Science. His photography has been displayed widely. Thursday, September 30, 7 PM, at Peace Dale Library--Filmmaker Carla Ricci with Carolina: The Smallest of the Small. Join us for a showing of this film about Carolina, Rhode Island. From the film's website: "Carolina, RI, has a big story. As mill towns go, it may be the smallest of the small but this film makes the case that it may be one of the best." The Carolina Mill was owned by Rowland Gibson Hazard of the Peace Dale Manufacturing Company. Registration is required for this event--to sign up, call 789-1555.

Pawtucket Red Sox Library Pass available at the Peace Dale Library. One pass per game; first come, first served. Using the pass, you pay a flat fee of $18 at McCoy Stadium which gets you admission for up to 6 people. Pass must be picked up and used on the day of the game. See Pawsox Schedule.
