License to Carry a Concealable Weapon (CCW)

SKPD patch

The South Kingstown Police Department is now processing all concealed carry applications online. The process is the same for both “new” and “renewal” applications.

Please register through the online link and thoroughly complete the application. An incomplete application will delay the review process. The South Kingstown Police Department has created a process that does not make it unduly difficult for a person to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon or revolver as authorized under Rhode Island General Laws § 11-47-11. The South Kingstown Police Department has a responsibility to properly vet the application to ensure the following criteria have been met as specified by the above-mentioned general law.

        • Age and residency requirement: The applicant must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older, have either a bona fide residence or place of business within the Town of South Kingstown or a bona fide residence within the United States and a license to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on his/her person issued by authorities of any other state or subdivision of the United States.

        • Reason requirement: The police department must be satisfied that the person has a good reason or proper reason for carrying a pistol or revolver.

        • Suitability requirement: The department must be satisfied that the applicant has demonstrated proof of ability to safely handle the firearm in question and that the applicant is a suitable person to be licensed.

The department does not administer the pistol/revolver qualification course for the applicant.

Applications will not be considered unless the following conditions have been met:

The application must be filled out completely by the applicant. An incomplete application will not be processed and will delay the decision of your application.
