- VACANCY
PURPOSE
The Town Council recognizes the need to expand the community's tax base and to encourage the development and retention of skilled employment opportunities for local residents. In order to promote a stable and diversified local economy and enhance the quality of life in South Kingstown, the Town Council appoints an Economic Development Committee to serve in an advisory capacity to the Planning Board and the Town Council in the following areas:- Advise the Planning Board and Town Council in matters regarding community economic development.
- Recommend to the Planning Board and Town Council strategies that promote and enhance responsible economic growth in the community.
- Provide appropriate guidance and advocacy for new or existing business applicants regarding project viability and the regulatory approval process.
- Provide applicants with appropriate information and application materials regarding the Town’s Tax Exemption and Stabilization Program.
- Work to implement the goals and objectives of the Town’s Comprehensive Community Plan as they relate to economic development.
- Work with the University of Rhode Island to identify potential cooperative ventures with the University of Rhode Island that stimulate economic development.
TAX EXEMPTION & STABILIZATION PROGRAM
The Town of South Kingstown’s Tax Exemption and Stabilization Program is focused on providing potential tax relief to major new business as well as expansions and relocations to existing businesses in Town. The program is intended to create and retain jobs associated with manufacturing and commercial operations, although small scale expansions, relocations, and applications for general commercial uses may be considered.
