ENTRY LEVEL
Entry-level applicant minimum qualifications to apply:
- at least 18 years of age
- a citizen of the United States
- possess a valid driver’s license
- possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- be able to speak, read, and write the English language
Entry-level candidates must successfully pass each step before being moved to the next step:
- Physical agility test
- SKPD written exam
- Swim proficiency test
- Panel interview
- Chief’s interview
- Comprehensive background investigation
- Medical and physical screening
- Psychological test
A pool of entry-level applicants will be kept on file for one year at the end of the panel interview process.
POST CERTIFIED
POST-certified applicant minimum qualifications:
- at least 18 years of age
- a citizen of the United States
- possess a valid driver’s license
- possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- be able to speak, read, and write the English language
- current RI POST or out-of-state POST certification, in good standing
(out-of-state POST-certified applicants will need to attend a portion of the RI Municipal Police Training Academy to attain RI POST certification, once hired)

- Incident report writing sample
- Swim proficiency test
- Panel interview
- Chief’s interview
- Comprehensive background investigation
- Medical and physical screening
- Psychological test
A pool of POST-certified candidates will be kept on file for one year after the panel interview.
