Community Resources Available for Those Affected by SNAP Suspension
The Town of South Kingstown recognizes that the recent suspension of federal SNAP benefits may create hardship for many residents. Community members who are in need of food assistance are encouraged to reach out to the following local and regional agencies offering support and resources:
Jonnycake Center for Hope – Providing food pantry services, financial assistance, and support programs for South Kingstown residents. Visit www.jonnycakecenter.org or call 401-789-1559.
Rhode Island Community Food Bank – Offering information on food pantries and meal sites across the state. Visit www.rifoodbank.org or call 401-942-6325.
Tri-County Community Action Agency – Assisting individuals and families with food access, energy assistance, and other essential needs. Visit www.tricountyri.org or call 401-351-2750.
SNAPsupport.ri.gov – An online hub for updates and resources, especially during the current federal SNAP shutdown. Visit www.SNAPsupport.ri.gov.
In addition, the South Kingstown Senior Center offers a daily senior meal program for adults 60 years of age and older, or under 60 with a documented disability. Enjoy a hot lunch or sandwich Monday through Friday at 12:00 PM, for a $3 suggested anonymous donation. Advanced reservations are required to ensure a meal is available. Please call 401-789-0268
Community members who wish to help can drop off non-perishable food donations at South Kingstown Town Hall, the Neighborhood Guild, the Senior Center, the Recreation Center, or any Town library. All donations are delivered to the Jonnycake Center for Hope to support local families in need.
Residents are encouraged to check in on neighbors and share information about available community resources. Together, we can support one another through this challenging time.
