Regarding South Kingstown 

Short-Term Rental (STR) Registration Ordinance

As you are aware, on April 8, 2024, the Town of South Kingstown recently adopted an ordinance codified as Chapter 9, Article IX of the Town's Code of Ordinances, which requires every dwelling unit utilized for guest accommodations for a period of less than thirty (30) days, be issued a registration by the Town. A similar ordinance was adopted in our neighboring community of Narragansett and was recently challenged in Superior Court. In a decision issued on October 2, 2024, the Superior Court issued a decision enjoining Narragansett from enforcing its short-term rental ordinance. 

Considering the recent decision, it is currently the Town's position to refrain from enforcing our short-term rental ordinance. If you have already registered your short-term rental for the 2025 calendar year and remitted payment to the Town, you will be refunded the total amount to the original payment  method.  Please allow approximately 45-days from the date of this notice for your refund to be processed.
