[ARCHIVED] SK USA250 Speaker Series - The Life of Nathanael Greene

Flyer for SK USA 250 Speaker series Session 3

Illuminating the life of Nathanael Greene is the topic of the third installment of the Speaker Series presented by the South Kingstown Committee for the Celebration of the Semi-Quincentennial of the United States.

Jessica Wilson and Eileen Harrington will cast light on Greene’s early life in Rhode Island, his participation in the American Revolution, his relationship with George Washington, and the several memorials and monuments put up in honor of his military and civil accomplishments.

The Wilson-Harrington talk will take place Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 PM, in the auditorium of the South Kingston High School, 215 Columbia Street, Wakefield.

Ms. Harrington will survey the life and career of Nathanael Greene, and Ms. Wilson will consider the memorials and monuments to Greene in Rhode Island and around the United States.

Ms. Wilson served 33 years at the Peace Dale library, including 22 years as the Local History Librarian.   In that capacity, she coordinated and presented public programs and created the Timeline of South Kingstown History for the Town’s 300th Anniversary in 2023.

Ms. Harrington holds a master’s degree in history from Columbia University and has taught at the high school, college, and graduate levels.  After reading Gerald Carbone’s A Biography of the American Revolution, she became interested in teaching an OLLI course on Nathanael Greene.

This event is part of an ongoing Speaker Series designed to engage the community in local, regional, and national history as the country approaches the America 250 commemoration in 2026.  It is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Additional details about future presentations in the Speaker Series will be announced throughout the year.  Visit www.southkingstownri.gov/usa250 for more information on 250th events and programs in South Kingstown.
