Composting Options for Narragansett & South Kingstown Residents

On average, 38% of all food in the United States is thrown away. Approximately 70,000 tons of food waste is buried in the Central Landfill each year. This equals about 300-400 pounds of food waste per person, each year!

Composting allows us to divert some of that food and yard waste from landfills and turn it into something practical to use in our yards. Narragansett and South Kingstown residents have options for composting!

The main compost options for residents are:

  • Bringing your compostable materials to the Rose Hill Regional Transfer Station for disposal in designated compost bins.

Food waste can be collected and transported to the transfer station and disposed of in designated compost bins. If there is no room available in the bins they will be unable to accept compost (bins are currently emptied on Mondays). For a list of what to dispose of in the transfer station compost bins, click here.

Leaf & yard waste can be collected and transported separately to the transfer station in brown paper yard waste bags. Special Yard Waste Tags may be purchased by South Kingstown and Narragansett residents only. Tags can be purchased at the transfer station or in the Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall.
